This package is designed for use by cosmetologists including, but not limited to hairstylists, barbers, manicurists, and others as defined by Georgia State Board of Cosmetology, who might come into contact with blood or other body fluids during the course of their work.

Topics covered include an overview of HIV/AIDS, how it is spread, HIV prevention, Universal Precautions (barrier protection, personal cleanliness, and disinfection), other bacterial, viral and fungal infections, sterilization and disinfection, distinction between disinfectants and antiseptics, sanitation of hands, tools and other equipment and requirements for salon ventilation and cleanliness.

State Requirements

Georgia State Board Cosmetology CE Requirements

Cosmetologist, Nail Technicians, & Estheticians must take 5 hours of Georgia Cosmetology Continuing Education.

  • Health & Safety - 3 of the 5 required hours must be satisfied with a health & safety course including the Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE) curriculum
  • 2 Hours Open - the other 2 hours may be satisfied by completing other courses in health and safety issues, industry trends, computer skills, business management or related areas of practice.
  • License Expiration Date - (6 month late renewal period for individuals who miss the renewal date)
    • Cosmetologist - March 31 of even years.
    • Nail Technicians - August 31 of odd numbered years.
    • Estheticians - August 31 of odd numbered years.
  • Online CE courses registered with Georgia State Board of Cosmetology are allowed as a means of getting CE.
  • Waiver for Continuing Education
    • Any licensee who has held a license for 25 years or longer eligible for a waiver of the continuing education requirement.
    • Any licensee who can prove to the Board that he or she has a hardship, may request a waiver of continuing education requirements.
    • Note: The law does not provide for a waiver of renewal fee.
  • No Test - A test cannot be required to show a CE course was successfully completed.
