State Requirements

Important Notice

If you are a cosmetologist or esthetician in Illinois the license renewal deadline is September 30th. Prior to your license renewal you are required to complete cosmetology continuing education:

  • Cosmetologists - 14 hours
  • Estheticians - 10 hours
  • Nail Technicians - 10 hours

Note: This renewal is Oct 31st on even years

To ease the process of meeting requirements in time for the renewal deadline Illinois licensees can take half of their cosmetology ce courses online.

The Illinois license renewal period will officially begin July 2nd. The state licensing division said they will send postcards for the renewal mid to late July for cosmetologists and about the first week of August for estheticians. If your address has changed, go to https://www.idfpr.com/DPR/CHG_INFO/DEFAULT.asp to update your address with the licensing division. The license renewal fee is $50 and there is a $10 late fee if you miss the deadline.

For other cosmetology license renewal questions refer to the State of Illinois Division of Professional Regulation.
